Hotel Accommodation in Napa
• A WorldWeb.com Travel Guide for Napa, California.
It could be said that everything about Napa is beautiful. The area, the city itself, the vineyards and wineries, the people. Not surprisingly so are Napa's accommodation choices that greet visitors to the region. A place of sophistication, relaxation and luxury, and known for its wine production and spas, Napa Valley attracts both those who have savoir-faire or finesse and those who admire it from a distance.
The city is a short 49 mi (79 km) northeast of San Francisco and enjoys weekend visitors as well as those who come from further afield for a few days, weeks or even months. All its visitors are well serviced with luxury and mid-range hotel and motel options, and even budget accommodation seekers can find a few possibilities dotted throughout the city.
ST. HELENA HIGHWAY
There are generally three locations in Napa where hotel accommodation is clustered. The first is just northwest of the city on the St. Helena Highway (also known as Highway 29 and 128), which is the main route passing through Napa north from San Francisco. Here a group of mid-range chain hotels and motels rest along the highway. Swimming pools and hot tubs are popular amenities at most of these accommodations and there is also the relatively penny-friendly choice of the Chablis Inn.
DOWNTOWN
The second location of places to stay after touring wineries all day or being pummelled by a masseuse at a local spa is east of St Helena Highway and within a short distance of the river that passes through the city. Most are a block or two away from the downtown but a couple that are also luxurious in nature are in the heart of the city, as well as very close to the river.
The White House Inn is one such accommodation choice. Many of Napa's hotels and larger inns close to the city center are located in historic buildings and have antique furniture as well as attractive gardens and places to relax and enjoy the views. The larger hotels, such as the Napa River Inn in the Historic Napa Mill Complex, tend to be located a few blocks away from the city center.
SOUTH
Finally, further south and 1 mi (1.6 km) from downtown are a few additional and larger places to stay. A couple of mid-range hotels are available here, as well as the resort style Meritage Resort and Spa, which has a private wedding chapel and the unique Spa in a Wine Cave to tempt guests.
BED & BREAKASTS
Bed and breakfasts and inn-style accommodations with one to 15 bedrooms are a popular alternative in Napa. Visitors wishing to consider these options will be spoiled for choice as the lodgings offer historic charm, gourmet breakfasts, balconies, spa tubs, wine and cheese tastings, wine receptions and afternoon wine and hors d’oeuvres.
YOUNTVILLE
Yountville, a town just a short 8 mi (12 km) north of Napa, also has a couple of luxurious boutique hotels that are designed in French country-style and offer champagne breakfasts, afternoon tea, tennis and spa services.
